Are you done yet?

Today, this rainy Wednesday, my husband took my 2 year old daughter to see her grandparents, so I could have a bit of time in my studio. But I know when he gets back, he'll ask the question as he always does, "Are you done yet?". "Not quite yet" is always my response. And it's not that I haven't done anything for the last few hours, on the contrary, I have done quite a bit. But the answer is more directed at my process as an artist. I'm never really done. I'm always starting a new project, trying to master a new technique, finishing up a commissioned bracelet or just reflecting on my ideas and starting anew. To be fair, as artists, are we ever really done? We are constantly growing, changing and reinventing ourselves. To be better craftsman, artists and people. So I'll continue on the path of growing, changing and reinventing - knowing, understanding and embracing the fact that I will never really be done. And I'm happy with that. My husband on the other hand probably will never understand - I'm okay with that too. Have a productive day.

So true... my hubby always asks 'how long will it take?', my answer 'I don't know.' Creativity just doesn't work like that!!!
